BOOM Redesign: St. Margaret of Scotland Festival Website

    When it’s time for a change, sometimes you just have to just bite the bullet and remix this business.  St. Margaret of Scotland Parish Festival is an annual community and parish event in Green Tree, PA that desperately needed a face-lifted website, and some 2013 web abilities.

    This is the 5th year of the revamped festival and the website needed to reflect new sponsorship, event information, and also energize the volunteer base.

    BOOM decided to go a bit further than called for and create a new website, revitalize ongoing messaging and try out some new functionalities on the fly.

    The new design incorporates a much more user-manageable interface via the WordPress platform, a completely responsive design that transforms to a vertical format with native navigation on mobile devices, and adds a map/directory that utilizes both the standard Google Maps (for mobile versions) and switches to the brand new new Google Maps Engine Lite for standard desktop and laptop browsers.

    “The interactive directory is probably the coolest thing about the new festival design. It shows and differentiates everything from the various rides, to food and beverage booths, as well as where crossing guards are, information and emergency medical personnel. All accessible instantly from your mobile device”, says creative director Scot Fleming, “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at Target or Wal-Mart and wished for this kind of an app. Which aisle is the duct tape in? The great thing is that it can totally be revised on the fly. So – on Thursday night if we have the Penguins game running at the festival, or the ATM machine needs to be moved  – we can change that on the map instantly.”

    BOOM tech-guru and CEO Scott Dix adds “I wish we could use the slick new Google Lite engine for mobile devices as well as traditional desk, lap and tablets, but it’s still in beta mode and isn’t quite ready for full responsiveness. But they play well with each other and both add an amazing interactive dimensionality to a simple event website.”

    In addition to the new design, interactive map functions and general information updating, BOOM added social media optimization to the 2013 remix, facilitating Facebook and Twitter updates to roll-out automatically whenever  is added to the site.

    BOOM Launch: Key Care Hospice Branding, Website & Advertising Campaign

      Creating positive messaging for a health service like hospice care is a challenge.  The general public and target audiences have many preconceptions about hospice care – some antiquated or unfounded, some understandably relevant. Building a campaign message to counter some of these ideas and reflect optimism and hope amidst the reality of death is daunting. But 15 minutes into the first meeting with Key Care Hospice principles Michael Monsour and Melissa Scarsellato, the BOOM team was inspired by their stories and mission and knew the direction we wanted to take.

      Key Care Home Health & Key care Hospice are award-winning, highly rated health services serving Westmoreland, Indiana, Fayette, Washington, and Allegheny Counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania. They have a different approach to hospice care, customizing individual care plans based on the needs of the individual. Their philosophy of treating patients with dignity, respect, and compassion cannot be fully appreciated until witnessed firsthand.

      “The moment that brought it all home for me was it was when they described their “This hand…” project,” remembers BOOM President Scott Dix. When visitors enter a facility where Key Care provides services, they’re greeted by walls adorned with canvasses showcasing drawings of hands. Hospice patients trace and decorate their own hands, and celebrate their life in a simple art project that touches everyone who experiences it. “When they showed us those canvases we all looked at each other and knew what we wanted to do. How we wanted to roll-out their story.”

      BOOM was tasked to develop new brand identities for both company divisions, design a new website, and revitalize ongoing messaging.

      Built on the concept “Living With…”, BOOM created a messaging campaign that would reintroduce and reposition the Key Care brand. The “Living With…” campaign emphasizes the close interaction between caregivers and patients, and the celebration of their individual lives.

      In addition to a stepped incorporation of the new identity into all messaging materials over the coming months,  this week marked the launch of  the redesigned Key Care Hospice website and print and outdoor advertising campaigns.

      BOOM Launch: Deep Creek 2014

        The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has awarded the 2014 Canoe Slalom World Championships to Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI).  Following presentations at its April 15 spring board meeting in Paris, ICF selected ASCI’s “Deep Creek 2014: ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships” bid over competing entries from Vienna, Austria and Krakow, Poland.

        The World Championships event, to be held September 16-21, 2014, represents a return of world championship whitewater canoe and kayak racing to the United States for the first time since 1989.

        The steering committee for the international event, headed by members of ASCI, USACK, and the Maryland Office of Sports Marketing chose BOOM to create branding, design pre-campaign materials and launch the official website this month for distribution at this year’s World Championships event held in Bratislava-Slovakia.

        The new website will act as an information resource during the three-year ramp-up to the events. The site is designed to be completely user-managed and content can be added easily from mobile devices on site. The website was built as a modular structure to house multiple blogs, ticketing modules, registration and scheduling widgets, and is done completely in Java to facilitate its compatibility on iPhones, multiple browsers and other mobile devices.
